LANSING, Mich. (May 21, 2025) — Sen. Mary Cavanagh (D-Redford Twp.) has issued the following statement after Michigan Senate Democrats adopted Senate Resolution 50 yesterday, which urges the President and U.S. Congress to fully fund Medicaid and reject any proposal that would strip health care access to those in need:
“As an elected official, I’ll do everything in my power to protect my constituents — and today, I took a stand to safeguard access to health care here in our community and state by calling on Republicans in Washington to reject any proposal that guts funding for Medicaid. Their dangerous, reckless proposal would not only devastate our economy and the health of folks across our state — their proposal is quite literally a matter of life or death for so many vulnerable families and communities all over our nation.
“I proudly cosponsored this resolution to demonstrate to the hardworking people of my district that I am in their corner, and I will not stop fighting to defend access to this critical lifeline that serves over 2.6 million Michiganders. We will not leave any of our neighbors behind in this fight for essential health care.”
