LANSING, Mich. (May 1, 2025) — In response to degrading comments made by Speaker Matt Hall at a press conference yesterday regarding his colleague, Rep. Mai Xiong (D-Warren), Sen. Stephanie Chang (D-Detroit) has issued the following statement:
“I’ve known Representative Xiong for almost two decades and have observed her intelligence, creativity, hard work, and commitment to her community. She and every colleague, on both sides of the aisle, deserve to be treated with respect.
“I’m deeply disappointed in Speaker Hall’s comments. Name-calling and demeaning legislative colleagues are not only counterproductive and harmful actions — they demonstrate the very opposite of what Michiganders sent us to the Capitol to do. I urge every lawmaker to focus on passing effective policy so that every Michigander has the opportunity to thrive.”
