In 2019, Dave, a constituent from Grosse Pointe, received a living-liver transplant from his brother-in-law, Mark, just a few years after being diagnosed with a rare autoimmune liver disease. After making a full recovery, Dave reached out to me to discuss ways the Legislature can increase support for living organ donors like Mark. Together, we crafted legislation that ensures living donors cannot be discriminated against when trying to access insurance.
This summer, I was humbled to join Dave and my colleague, Senator Joe Bellino, for the Living Liver Foundation’s annual Living Donor Game at USPLB to celebrate this legislative achievement and raise awareness of the importance of living donors.
