“When new technologies enter our lives, especially technologies that interact directly with young people, there is a basic expectation that safety will come first. Unfortunately, that has not been the case with the rapid expansion of AI companion chatbots. My bill establishes clear safety guardrails to protect children from dangerous AI companion chatbots, because here in Michigan, protecting children is not optional.”

Michiganders deserve accountability from their government and the systems that we work, live, and play in every day. That's why Michigan Senate Democrats have made accountability a core pillar of the work we've championed since the onset of our majority, which includes:
✅ Passing bipartisan legislation to expand the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to the legislature and governor's office
✅ Creating new transparency measures in the state budget process to ensure that our residents know where their hard-earned tax dollars are going

London Gadd was just 12 years old when she died by suicide after being exposed to self-harm content online. No mother should have to mourn the loss of their child due to an addictive algorithm. The risks Big Tech exposes our kids to are far too high - from predatory algorithms, to AI chatbots, to data mining - we must make real change to protect Michigan`s kids.
